The horse' evolution of calmly grazing in herds on wide open plains did not prepare him for his modern day life of intense exercise and, often solitary, stabling. It is a fact that not all horses adapt well to this life. Despite careful mangement certain individuals will always exhibit excess excitability and nervousness. In the wild the horse had access to a wide range of vegetation and could specifically select those required, including herbs with a calmative action. Unfortunately, due to the limited number of species in modern pasture, the horse no longer has this choice.
